In Memory Of

April 9, 1986 - March 6, 2001

This page is dedicated to Max who was my dog. Max was obtained from a gentleman that had purchased him from Crox-Blancs Kennels. Crox-Blancs specializes in the Belgian Malinios breed of dogs. I received Max when he was 4 months old. It was my intention to raise Max and start a K-9 Unit in my police department. Officers that assisted in his training were all from the San Antonio Police Department. I am forever grateful for the assistance and friendship they showed me.

In 1987 I was able to get the unit started and was one of the first School District Police Departments to have a "Patrol" K-9. Max and I were certified according to the standards in place of the SAPD. We certified both "Basic" and "Advanced". During the next 5 years Max and I made over 242 arrests. We also competed in the Texas Police Games three years. During the 3 years we competed Max was awarded a Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal. In 1992 our new police chief decided to eliminate the K-9 Unit and Max was retired. He retired to our house where Robin (wife), Jennifer (daughter) and John (son) continued to shower him with love. His purpose then became to protect them. Except for being a food fanatic Max lived quite well in the house. He did like his food however. One morning I woke up to find his entire face covered in white powdered sugar. Yep you guessed it. The good police dog that he was, he liked donuts. Max managed to get to a brand new box of powdered donuts and ate them all. He did not leave any for me !!!!

Max was put down on March 6, 2001 after the pain of his arthritis became too much. I realized that I was keeping him for me and did not really recognize that his quality of life was not what he deserved. I will miss him always.
